Cousin Vinny Delivers

Winnipeg (CP) After blowing a 3-0 lead to the Reapers last game, YDP wasn’t about to make the same mistake twice. The boys in yellow faced off against the Freeze and jumped out to an early and commanding 3-0 lead just 6 minutes into the game as Satan and Damphousse capitalized on giveaways by Odelein. After a timeout to calm the boys down, Lang decided to take matters into his own hand and closed the gap to a one goal lead (4-3) just 7 minutes into the 2nd period. Brind’Amour and Damphousse restored YDP’s 3 goal lead midway through the second and paced YDP to an 8-4 victory.

‘Too many giveaways,’ said Coach Bailey, ‘it seemed that every time Lyle touched the puck he gave it away and they’d score.’ Odelein probably had the worst game of his career as his 5 incomplete passes resulted in 5 unassisted goals, a new YDP record. Odelein was not available for comments, but Freeze officials did confirm that he was ‘rewarded’ with a bag skate for his efforts which started immediately.

YDP’s good fortune spilled off the ice tonight as RHL central announced that it has awarded Yellowknife the RHL15 all-star game. NWT royalty and native son Geoff Sanderson will be among the honored guests that will accompany Commissioner Paul Myers, YDP Owner Howard Wong and RHLPA Executive Director Ura Dumass (no relation to this reporter) in the owners box for this game. ‘We are very pleased and thrilled to play host to this great event,’ said Wong, ‘spare no expense will be our slogan as Yellowknife welcomes the world.’
